Hello geocaching fools!  We are finally back to the action of Geocaching after a long winter and a dry spell.  We are getting out and fiding a few caches, as well as setting a couple!

I discovered that I had neglected to log the cache that we placed during last Septembers Kidney Kamp, so that should be up soon.

Now, I am finally caught up!  Well, after 4 more found ones and another one we set, just yesterday the 23rd.  Earlier this month we went to check on one of our first caches and picked up a couple more heading to Wyoming.  On the 23rd, it was such a nice day we had to get out.  This is only the beginning for this year, we are planning on geocaching a bunch more and trying to hit some of the events around the state starting with the maker events next week!

Hello everyone.  Well, we have decided that this blog is not great how it was.  Listings of geocaches found was boring and useless.  So, for now, I am going to write about our experiences.  The last post I did on here was in January of 2012.  Bah.  Since then, I really don’t want to log all of our stuff.

Let’s just say this, in 2012, we found some caches and we didn’t find others.  We actually didn’t do too much geocaching because of the price of gas.  We did try to geocache in Florida for the Make A Wish trip.  We had the GPS, geocaches loaded, but didn’t have or take the time to get any of them.  OH well.

We did head up to one of our favorite lakes, Currant Creek, and not only found a few, but placed 2 caches for Leatha’s birthday.  That is becoming a tradition, to place a cache for Leatha’s birthday.  Finally, in 2012, we got our badge for 12.12.12 finding a cache on 12-12-12.  It was a quick cache, close to home, at 10pm.  we almost missed it.  I had originally planned to get 12 caches, but it was not to be.

Quick cut to 2013.  It was March before we did anything with the GPS, when we placed one that couldn’t be published because it was too close to another one.  We then found 1.  only 1.  From March until August.

Well, August took us again to Fish Lake for Leatha’s birthday.  We placed a cache near our camp again as well as a couple of others.  And wouldn’t you know, there was a place that we drove by and it just needed a cache.  I looked, no caches nearby, so I placed one.  Got home, put it in to the geocaching site, and someone published a cache less than 50 feet from mine on the same day I placed mine.  I told you it was a good location.

All together we found 17 caches over that trip, the most in one month that we have ever done.  We also hit 150 caches found, and Amelia found it!  Too much fun.  Now, you can see in the sidebar there, our cache total stands at 165 found and 12 hidden.  Leatha has a disproportionate amount of caches, she finds a lot of them.

We didn’t know at the time, but we got badges for caching in August as well.  it was geocaching month.

12 for 31 days          15 for 31 days          16 for 31 days          intl geo day 2013   We really had no idea that the 17th was International Geocaching day, but we participated anyway!

One of the great things about caching is seeing places people choose to put caches, and reading interesting points that they put in the descriptions.  One of the caches we found was along the road and had a bunch of lava rock around that would catch water.  People used to stop there to water the horses and cattle in the old days before cars.  kind of cool history there.

We were on our way home and ended up with another flat tire for the trip.  So, while I was getting it changed, Leatha had to place  a cache.  She called it Flat Tire Blues and it has already been found!

The last cacche of the trip we found in Nephi, and was at an old Sinclair station, something that looked like it was built in the late 30’s.  It was of course closed and overgrown, but it is fun to see some of that old Americana on these quests for geocaches.  That is half of the fun.

Hello again.  This is another series of lists to catch up with.  If you want the coordinates, e-mail me otherwise they are all on Geocaching.com under our name of 6matthews.  Pictures are there with each cache, or over on our Pictures Page. Thanks for understanding, I will be more prompt in the future!

4-21-11

1.  Leatha found barbecue, Booze and Bowl.

2.  Leatha also found Tatters Buy Clop, which is a word scramble for “Rusty Bottle Cap” which is what the cache was!

3.  All three kids hiked a decent hill to a power line pole where Cameron found Slushy 500.

4.  Leatha and Amelia searched and found Air Power.

5.  After a long search Leatha found Melly’s Cache.

6.  Leatha and Amelia went out again and found Now it’s a Nano.

We picked Mom up from work after that and went to place a cache at the place where we were married almost 13 years ago.  It is fun to have caches at memorable places.  This one is called Enabling Matrimony.

7.  The last one was technically a DNF, but we found the wire that was supposed to be tethering the cache!

4-24-11

1.  Mom found Celebrating 5000 on a great trail while Dad was fishing!

2.  Leatha found I think I’ve got wings and #3 Picnic By the Falls

4.  Amelia was feeling left out and had to find Home for the Quorum

4-30-11

Another excursion into the mountains and more caches to find!

1.  We found Jordanelle State Park easily enough, or so we thought.  When we went to log it on Geocaching.com we found that what we did find, was one part of a 4 part multi cache.  We have to go back and read the descriptions better!

2.  And here we have our 100th Cache! We didn’t realize that this would be a momentous one for us or they probably wouldn’t have let Dad find Connections in Corrections, and we would have celebrated more at the site!

We then went a bit further and placed a big cache full of kaleidoscopes at a great   overlook.  We called it Stealthily Overlooking

3.  A couple of more misses and then Amelia found 8 in a tree.

This concludes April and what a great couple of months this has been!

4-5-11

Coming back from a Dr. appointment for the baby, we hit some caches!

1: Toone’s Travel Bug Repository.  40° 31.658 N 111° 54.427 W.  Amelia found this one in a very clever hiding place.  We left a travel bug in it!  she also had to make sure we got her ice cream cone in the picture.  4 year olds are funny.

2.  Neff Station and Halfway House.  40 33.797 N 111 53.466 W.  I grew up in this area and have passed this place hundreds of times, but today was the first day I even knew there was a monument here.  It is great when geocaching can teach you history as well as have the treasure hunt!

It has been a while  since I updated this page, even after I started it.  I am just going to list a bunch of caches that we have found and searched for in two week increments.  If you want the coordinates, e-mail me otherwise they are all on Geocaching.com under our name of 6matthews.  Pictures are there with each cache, or over on our Pictures Page.

3.  Amelia found South Towne Falls where we traded a travelbug for a geocoin.

4.  Dad and Amelia found Mall Ring Road.  This was a fun one with a creative place to hide a good sized cache.

4-10-11

1.  We searched and Leatha finally found All My Life’s a Circle.

2.  Just up the road, Cameron knew where to look for Ohio and found it in record time, before anyone else could get out of the car!

We then had to place a cache in the next roundabout.  We placed Round and Round and Under the Stone.

3.  Amelia found another cache with Can You See Me Now?

4.  Leatha and Mom spotted Stream Side at the same time.

5.  Amelia found another one with Bridge View.

6.  The kids wanted to play so Dad went back for the car, and just happened to find Boulder Climbing Dogi Pot all by himself.

4-11-11

1.  Amelia found C-Rock while waiting for Dad.

2.  Cameron Found The 2nd Billy Cache.

3.  Cameron found the next one as well, and it needs help!  Pa…Where did we park?

4.  Leatha found one she had to be lifted up to get at Take A Number.

4-17-11

1.  Leatha found Marmot’s Hide Out.

2.  Leatha also found Scud.

3.  Cameron almost got distracted by the horses but did manage to find 82.

Then there was a whole section of 4 that we didn’t find.  We are heading back to  the fishing spot to try again later.

4.  Mom and Leatha found Indian Peace Treaty at the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers monument.  Another history lesson for them!

5.  We saw a cache that looked like fun and Amelia pulled out KMB Big Pine.  This one was fun because it was big and had lots of things to trade for.

6.  We counted this one as found when Cameron did find a lid and a star wars picture in Wasatch to Star Wars- Jedi Training Hall.

7.  Leatha found All Aboard while Cameron was distracted with the trains.

8.  Leatha also found Daddy Day Camp at the other end of the parking lot.

9.  Amelia is getting quite a few caches and another one with Skate On!

10. And finally, we were on our way home and stopped to get gas when they noticed another cache nearby.  Cameron went and found STB, GWF &G99 in Heber.

There are many more caches yet to come including our 100th!

2.  Just What the Doctor Ordered.  40° 40.829 N 111° 58.853 W.  Cameron found another one of these, they are his favorite type of cache!

and then we went and placed another cache.  That was it for this day!

Apr 202011

Like I said, we don’t go anywhere without the GPS anymore.  Short trip to the store and 3 caches found!

1:  An Apple a Day.  40° 38.878 N 111° 56.387 W.  Leatha found this one and added more to her total.

Apr 202011

Another few caches, we are taking the GPS with us everywhere!

1:  Curiouser and curiouser.  40° 39.711 N 111° 52.921 W.  Leatha found this cache in an innovative way, log was damp but we could still sign it!

2:  Bridges of Madison County.  40° 39.637N  111° 52.996 W.  Dad found this one in a sneaky place.

3: Another one we just couldn’t find was called Evil…..we may go back.

4:  Hey! I come here often.  40° 37.733 N 111° 56.342 W.  Dad found this one and the container was broken.  we decided to replace the container to be nice!
